Abstract:
In this paper we discuss the definition of public and private space in mediatic societies, in which mediatization has a very strong impact. On one hand, we see the erosion and invasion of private space by the virtualities from a wide range of available media. On the other hand, there is also an invasion of public space, which is losing dignity and functionality. But, as paradoxical as it may seem, the media society is, at the same time, motivating a reduction of the private dimension. These functional alterations of spaces, public and private, challenge us to consider the pros and cons of each mutation and seek to put in perspective what will serve better our values of democracy and citizenship, as well as the essential balance between individual and collective interests. Nevertheless, in particular, a challenge, that must be tackled, is posed to education.
