Title: ACHIEVING CUSTOMER SPECIFICATIONS THROUGH PROCESS IMPROVEMENT USING SIX SIGMA: CASE STUDY OF NUTRISOIL - PORTUGAL

Abstract:
The tolerance limits are determining factors in the management of a production process for determining customer satisfaction. The use of Statistical Quality Control tools allows process improvement and cpk index enables its measurement.
In particular, the adoption by businesses of the Six Sigma philosophy has proven decisive in reducing the variation of a process or product, allowing the satisfaction of the consumer’s specifications, eliminates defects, reduce operating costs and increase profitability.
The company NutriSoil in Portugal sells bags of fertilizer and has been having trouble in the filling department due to overweight bags bet against the specifications. With the implementation of the Six Sigma philosophy, the NutriSoil improved the index cpk, with the consequent improvement of consumer satisfaction, and significant highly cost savings enabling the company to increase competitiveness.
