Abstract:
The Private Institutions of Social Solidarity (IPSS) in Portugal constitute a pillar of sustainability by means of creating institutions with qualified services to ensure the provision of services that, otherwise, the state could not ensure by itself. This is also the reality in the Guarda District.
The lack of information on aspects related to the characterization of the motivation and leadership of the IPSS Presidents is crucial to an understanding of the social reality of the Guard District.
The aim of this study is to provide information considered relevant and useful, anchored in the support of the City Councils, Parish Councils, the Institute of Employment and Professional Training and the District Center, so that the Social Action can define its policies in this area in a more reliable way.
Our purpose is that this goal is achieved and hence the social responses, given to the most weakened and deprived populations, may have greater effectiveness as a result of a better knowledge support of the IPSSs in the Guarda District and the profile of their Presidents.
