Abstract:
In the Portuguese Higher Education system, the adoption of distance learning will progressively continue to be considered by universities, through the use of tools and strategies for e-learning, b-learning or m-learning, as a complement to face-to-face teaching. This will provide these institutions of knowledge with the possibility of deeper changes in the future both in terms of teaching practices, and in terms of cost optimization to make better use of the new technologies’ potential.
This paper aims to characterize distance education, by describing teaching methods and the advantages of its use. The case study was carried out through an online questionnaire applied to students of a course unit from a Portuguese Higher Education Institution.
This study concludes that there are conditions to increase the use of e-learning, since students nowadays have computers at home with an internet connection. Moreover, students are aware of the importance of these new tools and strategies for e-learning as a complement to classroom training.
