Abstract:
The aim of this research is to assess the openness of companies for a certifiable single standard for integrated
quality, environmental and safety management systems (IQESMS). An empirical study was conducted,
which consisted of an exploratory analysis using a questionnaire to the companies of the industrial sector in
the central region of Portugal, with at least the Quality Management System certified. The data obtained, treated and analyzed indicated a higher number of companies (59%) that consider that the existence of a
certifiable single standard for IQESMS would facilitate the implementation. However, there are no
statistically significant differences among the opinions, which means that companies do not explicitly
consider an integrating standard to be necessary. On the other hand, it is evident on the part of those
companies which consider the existence of the certifiable single standard as positive, that there is a motivation
for the certification of IQESMS. However, it is important to continue the research, in particular as in what
the extension of the sample is concerned.
