Abstract:
In the context of the Supervised Teaching Practice in Physical Education (EF), we applied the PLOCQ questionnaire (Lonsdale et al., 2011) to a sample of 461 students from the 5th to 9th year of schooling in a school of education in Almada to identify the motivations of the students for the practice of EF. The questionnaire consists of 20 statements grouped into 5 dimensions or subscales according to the forms of regulation: intrinsic motivation, identified regulation, introjected regulation, external regulation and amotivation. There are significant differences between the 2nd and 3rd cycle in relation to the dimensions Identified Regulation and Intrinsic Motivation. In relation to the Regulated Regulation dimension there were also significant differences between cycles except in relation to the statement “... because I am disturbed when I do not do it”. Regarding External regulation, it is the second cycle that is most concerned with the consequences of not doing the lesson. For the students of the second cycle: EF is used to learn new exercises / sports, to improve the execution and to learn useful things for other areas of life; the classes are fun and exciting; students like to learn new exercises / sports and feel satisfied with new learning.
