Abstract:
Tourism and a wide range of related activities act increasingly as instruments of development in many regions of the interior that offer a diverse range of possibilities. Many of these regions present excellent conditions for hosting cultural events, due to their characteristic climate, diversity and hospitality. The attraction of international events to Portugal has grown in recent years. Summer Festivals assume an increasing importance in the Tourism and Economy of these regions. In recent years Idanha-a-Nova has been the setting of the Boom Festival. The arrival of thousands of young people from around the world and with different values and lifestyles to this quiet village generates culture shock while assuming a great importance in local economic development. In order to evaluate the local inhabitants’ perception of the Boom Festival, a survey was carried out, the results of which show that, in general, this event is perceived as positive for the local economy because it attracts many visitors and promotes the region internationally. However, they also point out some negative aspects, such as drugs and alcohol, higher prices for goods and services, and traffic.
