The aging of the skin occurs for accumulation of free radicals in the epithelial cells. Two types of aging processes exist: the intrinsic one, of genetic nature, and the extrinsic one caused for repetitive expositions to the solar rays ultraviolet. The objective of this study was to revise in literature evidences of the use of vitamin C in the prevention of the aging. Ascorbic acid is an antioxidant substance in the prevention of the aging, with capacity of to eliminate these free radicals. This nutrient can be used in topical way, in the form of creams I contend the nutrient or its derivatives; 157 e in oral way with food ingestion or supplements, being both efficient in the prevention and protection it cutaneous aging. Some experimental studies exist that demonstrate to the effectiveness of this vitamin in the protection the oxidatives processes. However, it has more reports of studies in the topical use, being necessary more evidences on the oral use of vitamin C in the prevention of the cutaneous aging.
