Abstract:
The formulations of poly(vinyl chloride (PVC) used in industry are quite variable depending on the experience acquired by each production unit. However, the influence of additives on the properties of the compound vinyl available in literature is scarce and sometimes contradictory. In this work the influence of the amount of calcium carbonate before and after artificial aging on the properties of rigid PVC. For such, the mechanical characterization of this polymer tensile, impact and micro hardness tests were carried out. As for the structural, morphological and chemical characterization, gel permeation chromatography, scanning electron microscopy and infrared spectroscopy was used. The calcium carbonate, present in the formulations of rigid PVC studied, beyond the role of a reinforcing agent and substituent volume, also plays a protective effect comparable to the effect of other additives added for specific effect.
